A quirky hotel with a mellow vibe
Mama Shelter Lille is a nice hotel with a fun, youthful vibe that is an easy walk to both of Lille’s main railway stations.
Like Lille’s Moxy hotel, Mama Shelter is a fun place to stay with a focus on the millennial market; however, the overall vibe of the hotel is a little more mellow than the Moxy, meaning that you’ll feel welcome here even if you’re not part of the hotel’s core demographic.
The 112 air-conditioned guest rooms all have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flatscreen television, a small fridge and an en suite bathroom.
Rooms range from 17 to 37m² with most of the rooms at the smaller end of the scale. While the 17–20m² rooms are small, they’re also well designed and make the most out of a compact space and the largest room, the 37m² XXL Mama, is a suite with separate living and dining areas.
Designed by Jalil Amor, the hotel has a modern, and slightly quirky, decor. It has more character than your average chain hotel while still maintaining a contemporary feel.
The hotel bar and restaurant have the feel of a hipster cafe where you can enjoy good quality, yet down-to-earth, food at big communal dining tables. It’s a nice casual dining environment and there’s also an outdoor terrace with a fire pit.
It is conveniently located close to the Euralille district, Westfield Euralille shopping centre and to Lille’s two railway stations; however, it’s not right in the middle of the business district, meaning that the neighbourhood around the hotel feels more authentic than if you were staying right in the heart of Euralille.
Although it is a very short walk to both Gare de Lille Flandres and to Westfield Euralille, it can be hard to find the hotel as it is not located on a main road. Just head to rue des Canonniers, which leads to the square between Gare de Lille Flandres and Westfield Euralille and then walk a minute down the road to get to Place Saint-Hubert.
The hotel is close to a nice park, Parc Henri Matisse, and it is less than a 10-minute walk to Grand’Place and the city centre and a 15-minute walk will get you right into the heart of Vieux Lille.
It’s only a four-minute walk to Gare de Lille Flandres (and Lille Flandres metro and tram station) and Gare de Lille Europe is only a seven-minute walk away.
