Lille Airport (Aéroport de Lille)

Growing hub for low-cost airlines

Lille Airport (Aéroport de Lille), also known as Lille-Lesquin Airport (l’aéroport de Lille-Lesquin) (LIL), is the primary airport serving the Lille and the surrounding Hauts-de-France region. The airport is around 7km southeast of Lille’s city centre and, despite both Brussels and Paris Charles de Gaulle airports being less than an hour from Lille, it is a hub for both domestic and international flights.

Destinations served by Lille Airport

The airport offers a range of flights connecting northern France to various destinations across Europe. It is well-served by several low-cost airlines including easyJet, Ryanair and Volotea, providing direct connections to major cities and tourist destinations in Europe and north Africa with year-round flights to Algiers, Dakar, Geneva, Gran Canaria, Kraków, Porto, Rome and Venice. Seasonal routes to holiday destinations include flights to popular spots like Athens, Corfu, Dubrovnik, Faro, Fuerteventura, Heraklion, Lanzarote, Málaga, Marrakesh, Palma de Mallorca, Rhodes, Split, Tenerife and Tunis.

In addition to these international flights, it also provides several domestic routes, linking Lille with other French cities such as Bordeaux, Marseille, Montpellier, Nice, Perpignan and Toulouse.

The airport’s proximity to the Belgian border also makes it a convenient option for travellers from neighbouring Belgium.

Airport facilities

While smaller than many other European airports, Lille Airport offers a small range of amenities including shops, a bar and a couple of restaurants.

Although there are several hotels near the airport, including an ibis Styles, a Mercure and a Novotel, they’re not particularly convenient as they’re all around a half-hour walk to the terminal. If you’re planning on walking from one of these hotels, the ibis Styles is slightly closer to the terminal than the other hotels but avoid the Novotel as its location means that there is no pedestrian access for part of the route to the airport terminal.

Transport to and from the airport

The airport is just 7km southeast of Lille’s city centre with several public transport options to get into the centre of Lille.

The Flibco airport shuttle (navette aéroport) is the easiest, quickest and most comfortable option, providing a direct connection between Lille Airport and the central Gare de Lille Flandres railway station, although there are better value options. The shuttle bus runs every hour, with a journey time of around 20 minutes.

A cheaper alternative is to take local bus route 68 to 4 Cantons metro station and then take the metro into the city centre. Although this option takes longer, it’s much cheaper and it may be a more convenient option if you’re staying near a metro station outside central Lille.
