Maison Folie Wazemmes
Cultural centre in a former textile factory
Maison Folie Wazemmes is a cultural centre in Lille’s Wazemmes district that has become an essential part of the city’s artistic and community landscape.
The former textile factory, dating from 1855, was redeveloped to incorporate contemporary industrial architecture while also showcasing the site’s 19th-century industrial heritage. The centre was opened in 2004 as a venue for the Lille 2004 cultural event.

Visiting Maison Folie Wazemmes
Maison Folie Wazemmes is in the heart of Wazemmes, a working-class neighbourhood around 2km southwest of Lille’s city centre. The main reason why most people visit Wazemmes is for its market, which is one of the largest covered markets in Europe.
It is best reached by metro and Gambetta, Montebello and Wazemmes metro stations are around a 5–6-minute walk from the centre.
Maison Folie Wazemmes doesn’t have a permanent art exhibit, opening to the public only for scheduled exhibitions, festivals and other cultural events.
If you enjoyed your visit to Maison Folie Wazemmes, you may also want to visit Maison Folie Moulins, a similar cultural centre, housed in a former brewery, in the Moulins neighbourhood south of the city centre.
