Moxy Lille City
A fun place to stay
Moxy Lille City is a fun place to stay in a former university building that features a grand exterior and a modern interior.
Most of the rooms are configured as either 17m² queen or twin rooms or 24m² family rooms, which are certainly smaller than other hotels in the Marriott stable.
The rooms are designed to make the most of the smaller space and they don’t feel too cramped. All rooms are air-conditioned and have comfortable beds, large flat-screen televisions and a compact en suite bathroom with a hairdryer and a massive rainfall shower head. The rooms do not have tea and coffee making facilities, nor do they have much in the way of storage options.
Rooms also have a work desk but it’s very small (you get a larger desk if you’re in a family room) so this maybe isn’t the best place to stay if you need to get any work done.
The hotel’s public areas, which include the Lab Bar/reception area, feature a funky interior design and it has louder music than your typical hotel lobby. In many ways, the atmosphere is like a very nice hostel with vibrant communal spaces on the ground floor where it is easy to strike up a conversation and get to know your fellow guests.
There is also a work area, which is more like a co-working space than a traditional hotel business centre, and this is a good workspace if you feel that the desk in your room is a little too small.
The communal spaces are very well done and I like the idea of creating a hostel-style atmosphere in a hotel, however, some older guests complain that the whole vibe of the place makes them feel a little out of place.
The hotel also has a 24-hour fitness centre.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
Moxy is a Marriott hotel brand that is chasing the same design-focused millennial market as Marriott’s high-end W Hotel brand but Moxy’s big advantage is that millennials can actually afford to stay here.
The hotel is located south of the city centre, not far from the Palais des Beaux-Arts. From here it is less than a 20-minute walk to la Vieille Bourse and it is around a 25-minute walk to the heart of Vieux Lille. Nearby points of interest include the belfry at the Hôtel de Ville, Gare Saint-Sauveur, Musée de l’Institute Pasteur, Palais des Beaux-Arts and Port de Paris, which are all within a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
The closest metro station is République Beaux-Arts, which is an eight-minute walk away. Gare Lille Flandres is a 20-minute walk from the hotel and Gare Lille Europe is 25 minutes away.
Car parking is available but it costs €18 per night.
